BEIJING, Jan 18 (APP): Pakistan and China are poised to unlock significant opportunities in the rapidly expanding medical and surgical equipment sector, with both nations collaborating to drive sustainable growth and innovation, said Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, at a business forum in Beijing on Thursday.Speaking during the Pakistan-China B2B Matchmaking Meeting on Medical and Surgical Equipment—organized by the Pakistani Embassy in partnership with Chinese entities such as the China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Medicines & Health Products (CCCMHPIE)—Ambassador Hashmi highlighted the transformative potential of joint ventures and industrial partnerships. He described the bilateral relationship as a “model of mutual trust and shared progress,” emphasizing Pakistan’s readiness to welcome Chinese expertise and investment in its medical manufacturing landscape.

“Pakistan’s surgical and medical equipment industry is a source of national pride, celebrated globally for its craftsmanship, precision, and unwavering commitment to quality,” Hashmi stated. He noted that the sector, currently valued at over $600 million, is projected to grow by 8% annually over the next five years, bolstered by robust supply chains, skilled labor, and abundant raw materials. The ambassador underscored Pakistan’s prominence as a key player in the global medical equipment market, particularly spotlighting Sialkot, a city ranked among the world’s top five hubs for surgical instrument manufacturing. With 3,900 active production units crafting more than 25,000 types of instruments, Pakistan exported $450 million worth of medical goods in 2023, primarily to the U.S., Germany, and China.Looking ahead, Hashmi outlined ambitious plans to establish a dedicated medical and surgical equipment industrial park in Pakistan. The initiative aims to centralize innovation, optimize production efficiency, and accelerate skill development through technology transfers and training programs.

Echoing these sentiments, Zhou Hui, President of CCCMHPIE, affirmed China’s commitment to transforming Pakistan into a global manufacturing hub for medical supplies. “This collaboration not only strengthens Pakistan’s industrial capacity but also offers Chinese enterprises a strategic gateway to expand their global footprint,” he said. Zhou urged Chinese firms to capitalize on the partnership, framing it as a win-win opportunity for long-term growth and sustainable development. The event concluded with B2B networking sessions, where industry leaders from both countries explored avenues for trade, joint ventures, and knowledge-sharing to meet rising global demand for high-quality medical equipment.
